Lesson Preparing your taxes

About your tax slips

Learn what tax slips or other supporting documents you can expect to receive from us, when you can expect to receive them, and other key information, so that you’re organized for tax time.

What tax slips can I expect to receive?

You could receive a number of different tax slips from us, depending on the type of account you have, the income you’ve earned, and contributions you’ve made.

If you are a Margin account holder, go to Tax considerations for your Margin account.

If you are a registered account holder, go to Tax considerations for your registered account.

Also refer to Important dates for tax slips.

Note: If you are unsure how to use the tax slips you receive, please consult with a tax advisor.

How will I know when a tax slip is available in my account?

You’ll get an email letting you know that a tax slip is in your account, specifying:

  • Your account number
  • Tax slip name
  • If this is an original, amended, or cancelled tax slip (non-registered accounts)

You will also get a notification on your mobile device that a tax slip is in your account, with the tax slip name and account number.

Note: at tax time, we email you when a tax slip is in your account for the current tax year (2023). If a new or amended slip for a previous tax year (before 2023) is issued to your account during the current tax year, you will not receive an email notification.

How do I access my tax slip?

To review and download your tax slips:

  • Log in to Questrade from any web browser
  • Go to Reports > Tax slips
  • Select the Account #
  • Select the year 2023. The screen that appears shows all tax slips you've received so far for for the 2023 tax year

What do I do if I receive an amended tax slip when I have already filed my tax return?

You may receive an amended tax form if an organization or security revised its tax requirements. If you have already filed your tax return when you receive an amended tax slip and you have access to your CRA account, log in to your account and make the change. Otherwise, you will need to complete and submit a T1ADJ form.

You can also reach out to your tax or accounting advisor for help.

What is the deadline for filing my 2023 tax return?

Deadlines to file taxes are as follows:

  • April 30, 2024 if you/your spouse are not self-employed
  • June 15, 2024 if you/your spouse are self-employed; however, any tax owing is due April 30, 2024

U.S. (Internal Revenue Service – IRS): April 15, 2024.

For trusts with a taxation year ending on December 31, 2023, the due date for filing returns to the CRA is April 2, 2024. Since April 1, 2024 falls on Easter Monday, your return will be considered filed on time if the CRA receives it, or it is postmarked on or before April 2, 2024.
